Pathway and Progression

Career and Capability Framework

This document outlines the core capabilities of a number of nursing roles within Primary Care, including General Practice Nurses.

Clinical Supervision

Clinical Supervision is a formal process of professional support, reflection and learning that contributes to individual development.  Clinical Supervision is supported for nurses by NMC and for other disciplines through their professional bodies.  Please find useful resources below. It is recommended that practices have a Clinical Supervision policy, many use templates from Practice Index but there are some examples included within the resources.

A Devon Clinical Supervision Community of Practice has been established to facilitate peer support and sharing of good practice.

If you would like to be sent the invitations directly, please contact devon.traininghub@nhs.net or contact Jo Sutton jsutton4@nhs.net for further information.

There has been a request via the Clinical Supervision Community of Practice regarding individuals may wish to source Clinical Supervision from outside of their practice or PCN. Devon Training Hub can link individuals from across the county to set up their own Clinical Supervision groups online. If you would like to be linked to other nurses working in General Practice in Devon, please complete this form and we will put you in touch with each other.

Devon Nursing New to Practice Programme

The Devon Training Hub offers a two year support programme for nurses new to general practice. This includes newly qualified nurses and nurses who have transitioned from another area of nursing (hospital, community etc.)

For further questions, please contact d-icb.dth.fellowshipadmin@nhs.net.

Return to Practice

The Return to Practice course enables previously registered nurses, whose registration has lapsed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council to return to the register. This process can take as little as 5 months and the course is provided within Devon by the University of Plymouth Return to Practice Plymouth, Programme Lead Adele Kane adele.kane@plymouth.ac.uk.

If you would be interested in hosting a Return to Practice student in Primary Care, who could join your team once qualified, please contact Jo Sutton at the Training Hub – jsutton4@nhs.net
