Please note that following this course it is expected that delegates will return to a suitable healthcare setting and complete a competency document under the supervision of an experienced practitioner. The certificate of attendance at this training session and the completed competency document together evidence proficiency in phlebotomy.
Course Aim:
- To understand how to perform venepuncture safely and effectively.
Learning Outcomes:
• Define venepuncture.
• Identify suitable veins for venepuncture.
• Explore the problems in identifying suitable veins for venepuncture.
• Identify complications.
• Demonstrate health and safety awareness.
• Anatomy and physiology of the arm.
• Demonstrate understanding of the appropriate equipment required
• Perform venepuncture safety under stimulated conditions
• Describe infection prevention measures
• Identify the action required in the event of a needle stick injury
- Effectively communicate with patients
