SUMMARY:Assessment and Management of Dizziness and Acute Balance Impairment In Urgent and Emergency Care
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview \nThis course will provide AHPs and Nurses with a range of knowledge and skills\, to assess and treat a person who has primarily presented to urgent and emergency care settings with dizziness or balance problems. \nLearners will already have a basic understanding of the neurological system\, and will be looking to develop their knowledge further\, and to confidently assess and manage the person experiencing dizziness or acute balance impairment. \nCourse Content \nThe course will cover the following areas of assessment: \n\nTypes of dizziness and risk\nHow blood pressure is controlled and the effect of postural changes on blood pressure.\nOverview of the vestibular system\, and assessment of hearing\, vision and proprioception.\nAssessment and treatment of vertigo including the Dix Hallpike Test\, Epley manoeuvre\, and Brandt- Daroff exercises.\nPrinciples and common exercises for vestibular\n\n  \nThe course will include both a revision of relevant anatomy and physiology\, and demonstration and opportunity to practice a range of assessment skills that can be used in urgent and emergency care clinical practice with minimal resource and time. \nA range of learning activities will be used to meet each individual learners’ preferred learning styles\, and support integration into their clinical practice. DESCRIPTION:Course Overview \nThis course will provide AHPs and Nurses with a range of knowledge and skills\, to enhance their assessment of a person’s functional difficulties\, within the urgent and emergency care setting. \nThe course focuses on how practitioners can support early assessment and diagnosis for people who primarily present with acute changes in their mobility or ability to carry out their Activities of Daily Living [ADLs]. \nLearners will already have a basic understanding of the neurological and musculo-skeletal systems\, and will be looking to develop their knowledge further\, and to confidently apply functional assessment skills within their initial assessment of the person. \n  \nCourse Content \nThe course will cover the following areas of assessment: \n\nMental state and cognition\nSensation and proprioception\nMuscle testing and Motor Neurones\nWalking gait and Balance\n\nThe course will include both a revision of relevant anatomy and physiology\, and demonstration and opportunity to practice a range of assessment skills that can be used in urgent and emergency care clinical practice with minimal resource and time. \nA range of learning activities will be used to meet each individual learners’ preferred learning styles\, and support integration into their clinical practice.
