DESCRIPTION:Cervical Sample Taker Training – Somerset – April 2026\nWith Clinical Educator Pauline Bird. \nPLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE MAKING A BOOKING\nTRAINEES MUST LIAISE WITH THEIR PRACTICE MANAGER AND MENTOR IN PRACTICE BEFORE BOOKING A PLACE ON THIS PROGRAMME. \nThis course is only suitable for Registered Practitioners that hold a current\, valid PIN.  \nWednesday 22nd April 2026 – 09:15 – 10:00 \nMentor Introduction – Mandatory Virtual Training for Mentors of Trainees \nA Mentor for each Trainee must be nominated and available to attend the virtual Mentor Introduction. This must take place before the Trainee can undertake any of the practical elements of the Cervical Sample Taker Training programme.  \nMentors of Trainees must hold a valid PIN and have undertaken a Sample Taking Foundation or Update course within the last 3 years.  For the full list of eligibility criteria please read the Mentor Guide. \nInvitations to this session will be sent on receipt of the Mentor Information Form – this is sent in the first instance to the Trainee who will send it to the nominated professional in practice.  \nNOTE – Attendance at this session is MANDATORY unless certain criteria are met and Mentor absence is agreed in advance with the CSTT Administrator.  If an additional Mentor Introduction session is required to ensure full compliance with government guidelines\, a fee of £25 will be charged to cover administration and educator costs and facilitation. The guidance was updated in 2023 and our initial training sessions include the following: \n  \n\nThe NHS Cervical Screening Programme\nThe background to cervical screening\nOrganisation of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme\nEquality of access to cervical screening\nUnderstanding the test results\nAnatomy and physiology of the pelvic organs\nPractical aspects and professional responsibilities of taking cervical samples\n\n  \nTrainees will receive initial theory and practical training with our Clinical Educators before completing the rest of the programme by undertaking supported procedures in practice with their Mentor.  The whole programme can take up to 6 months to complete\, but can take as little as 6 weeks if there are sufficient appointments available to the Trainee. \nLearning and Development Centre provides a detailed programme of work to follow\, a Training Portfolio and Training Handbook\, and professional support for Sample Taker Trainees and their Mentors throughout the programme. DESCRIPTION:Mental Health Crisis Management – 8th July 2026\, 09:30 to 13:30.\nSuitable for all job roles in all settings\nWith Ali Uzzell\, MHFA England Trainer. \nMental Health Crisis Management \nThe purpose of this training is to help increase awareness of mental health crises and build confidence\, so that learners will be able to support individuals who are experiencing them. Also\, know where to signpost individuals for appropriate professional help. \nThe overall aims of the training will be to: \n\n Develop knowledge of mental health crises\n Raise awareness of how a mental health crisis might be experienced\n Develop an understanding of how to recognise a mental health crisis\n Build confidence and the skills to support someone in a mental health crisis\n Create a mental health crisis sign posting tool kit\n Recognise the importance of self-care\n\nSession Outline:: \n·       Identify what a mental health crisis is and how to recognise it. \n·       Identify what the potential risk factors are (our own safety\, the individuals\, and others) and how to manage the risks. \n·       Explore a range of techniques to support\, calm and reassure someone who is in crisis. \n·       Identify the key communication skills \n·       Identify a range of further professional/ non-professional support and next steps to build a resource toolkit. \n·       Recognise the importance of self-care and begin to create a personal self-care toolkit. \nFormat \n·        This is a half day course delivered virtually in Zoom. \n·        Learning takes place through a mix of presentations\, group discussions and workshop activities \n·        We limit numbers to 24 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn \nIf you no longer require your place on this course place cancel it so that there is availability for other delegates.  To cancel a booking please log into your Learning and Development Centre account\, go to the Centre course list and click on the orange box next to the course name.  It is expected that you will attend the session virtually from a quiet location at which you will not be disturbed\, and you will have access to a microphone and camera on your device.  Every delegate must have their own device to use throughout this session.  This is a requirement for attending this interactive course. \nThis course is being run as an online training course.
