The guidance was updated in 2023 and our initial training sessions include the following: \n  \n\nThe NHS Cervical Screening Programme\nThe background to cervical screening\nOrganisation of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme\nEquality of access to cervical screening\nUnderstanding the test results\nAnatomy and physiology of the pelvic organs\nPractical aspects and professional responsibilities of taking cervical samples\n\n  \nTrainees will receive initial theory and practical training with our Clinical Educators before completing the rest of the programme by undertaking supported procedures in practice with their Mentor.  The whole programme can take up to 6 months to complete\, but can take as little as 6 weeks if there are sufficient appointments available to the Trainee. \nLearning and Development Centre provides a detailed programme of work to follow\, a Training Portfolio and Training Handbook\, and professional support for Sample Taker Trainees and their Mentors throughout the programme. DESCRIPTION:Supporting People with Sleep – 12th March 2026\, 09:30 to 12:30 \nIn Person training at Porteous Groundworks Training Room\, 37 Estover Close\, Plymouth\, PL6 7PL. \nWith Victoria Tucker\, Learning and Development Centre Sleep Coach \nSuitable for: \nAll Healthcare Professionals \nSynopsis: \nGood quality sleep (and getting enough of it!) is vital for our health and wellbeing.  Everyone working in healthcare will have supported patients who are not getting enough sleep\, whether this is due to their mental health\, physical health\, medications\, profession or lifestyle.  At any one time\, 36% of the British population has experienced poor sleep in the last week. \nSleep is a mysterious activity that many of us take for granted\, but for others can be the cause of great distress. Poor sleep is known to contribute to poor health outcomes. \nThis bespoke training session will begin with a discussion about how we sleep and how our bodies and brains react to the different sleep stages.  The presentation also covers sleep anxiety and stress\, sleep hygiene\, ways of introducing stress management and relaxation techniques\, what to do when you have a bad night and why early nights and lie-ins may not be recommended for people with sleep problems. It will also cover instances in which people with poor sleep need to be clinically assessed for a sleep disorder.   The session will also cover how to introduce a Sleep Action Plan with patients when you have limited time in practice to support them\, and concludes with a discussion of some anonymised case studies. \nThis presentation will also be useful for practitioners experiencing poor sleep\, who would like support to understand their sleep problem and find some science-backed solutions. \nObjectives: \nBy the end of the session delegates will: \n\nUnderstand the science of sleep and how this can be used to improve sleep quality and quantity.\nUnderstand the principles of Sleep Hygiene and how these support better sleep.\nBe able to discuss simple sleep tips and techniques with patients for them to try at home.\nBe able to work with patients to build a sleep action plan based on their own feedback\, needs and inclinations.\n\n  \nThis is an in-person training session and refreshments will be provided.  The training room is located on the ground floor and there is free parking at the venue. \nAll delegates must have their own booking made through the Learning and Development Centre website to join the meeting.  The name on your Zoom account should be recognisable as the name on your booking.  If we cannot identify delegates they may not be admitted to the session\, or certificates may not be issued after the event. \nIf you no longer require your place on this course place cancel it so that there is availability for other delegates.  To cancel a booking please log into your Learning and Development Centre account\, go to the Centre course list and click on the orange box next to the course name. \nIf you have any questions please contact us! ldc.sentinel@nhs.net
