Chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease and metabolic conditions are closely linked, representing a major cause of ill health, premature mortality and health inequalities. Improving kidney health is one of the most effective ways to reduce cardiovascular risk and improve long-term outcomes. This session focuses on the practicalities of CKD in primary care: identifying those at risk, interpreting eGFR and albuminuria, optimising evidence-based treatment to slow progression and reduce cardiovascular risk, and knowing when referral to nephrology is indicated.
