Clinical supervision – getting you up and running
Clinical supervision is a topic which seems to get far
less attention than fire safety and other mandatory topics and yet it could be
argued that this is one of the most important ways to protect yourself and your
patients.
The aim of clinical supervision is to facilitate the
delivery of quality care to patients by supporting clinicians to develop their
professional expertise and skills. Clinical supervision helps healthcare
practitioners to maintain and improve standards through reflection and learning
from and with others.
Existing schemes in Devon have enabled nurses to work as
groups, in protected time, supported by their employer both as supervisors and
supervisees. We are now looking to roll out this approach more widely for
nurses across Devon and, ultimately, across other professional groups.
For this introductory session, we are keen to engage with
anyone who has an interest in clinical supervision. We are especially
keen to meet people who would like to explore the role of the supervisor so
that we can offer training and support for this role.
How do you start on your clinical supervision
journey? Well, first of all, put this date/time in your diary and join us
to find out more. We are working with Practice Managers across Devon to
ensure that you get the resources (in particular protected time for supervisors
and supervisees and remuneration for supervisors) to support your
engagement.
Aim of the session: to promote greater
understanding and uptake of clinical supervision across Devon
Objectives: By the end of the session,
attendees will have
- A
better understanding of what clinical supervision is
- A
clear way forward for setting up a clinical supervision group locally
- A
support network via the Training Hub and from others to facilitate the
implementation of clinical supervision in your locality
