2 Day Immunisation Course for the administration of influenza, pneumococcal, fluenz tetra and shingles vaccinations for Health Care Assistants (HCA’s) and Assistant Practitioners (AP’s)

All delegates must attend both days and two workbooks must be completed and submitted to the trainer. Details will be supplied on booking.
This course meets the national minimum standards for immunisation training
Course content will include
• Immunity and the different types of vaccine and how they work
• Legal aspects of vaccination, including delegation, consent and patient specific directions
• Epidemiology of influenza, pneumococcal and shingles diseases.
• Influenza, pneumococcal and shingles programmes for 2020.
• The importance of the cold chain
• Consultation process and risk assessment
• Correct administration of vaccination (practical session)
Aim of the course:
To administer influenza, fluenz tetra, shingles and pneumococcal vaccines safely and effectively in the general practice setting
The delegate at the end of the session will be able to:
Describe how immunity works
List the different types of vaccines
Access national guidelines and resources
Define the cold chain and work safely to avoid breaches
List’ at risk’ groups eligible for vaccination
Demonstrate the ability to carry out pre vaccination screening and risk assessment
Be aware of the medico- legal implications surrounding consent, accountability, indemnity and record keeping
Demonstrate the importance of Patient Specific Direction (PSD)
Identify contra-indications to vaccination
List potential side effects
Recognise and the management of anaphylaxis
Demonstrate best practice in injection technique
Work with a designated mentor in the work place
Complete an assessment of competency
