This module is for healthcare professionals who are planning to include insulin initiation for people with type 2 diabetes as part of their clinical role, or for those who already initiate insulin but feel that they need basic revision. The module covers all aspects of insulin initiation:
Identify when insulin is appropriate and understand why insulin is needed
Assist the patient in making an informed choice on whether to use insulin and in the selection of an insulin regimen and injection device appropriate to their needs
Support the patient during the initial stages of insulin use, advising on injection techniques, injection devices, blood glucose monitoring, hypoglycaemia awareness, informing the authorities, sharps disposal, sick day rules and other relevant topics

Diabetes Programme 2020 for GPs and Practice Nurses,
UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS PLYMOUTH NHS TRUST
The MERITTM Programme for 2020 has been developed by Novo Nordisk in collaboration with UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS PLYMOUTH NHS TRUST.
The aim of the programme is to support the development of skills and competency in the management of Type 2 Diabetes in the primary care setting.
What is the MERITTM programme?
MERIT™ (Meeting Educational Requirements Improving Treatment) is a flexible programme developed by Novo Nordisk. MERIT™ is a competency-based programme and is for all primary care healthcare professionals.
It consists of classroom-based education designed to provide delegates with the theory required to support diabetes management followed by the provision of tailored clinical support from specialist diabetes teams to help delegates consolidate the theory into practice. It is strongly recommended that GP and Practice Nurse colleagues attend together to maximise learning opportunities back in practice.
How to book a place
The 2020 programme consists of 4 modules which can be accessed individually or as a whole programme throughout the year. Bookings to be made directly with the programme co-ordinator (details below) on receipt of this flyer to guarantee a place early.
Venues and timings for courses
All courses in the 2020 programme will take place at Future Inn Plymouth unless otherwise stated. All refreshments and food will be provided. Whole day courses will start at 9 for 9.30 and finish at 4pm unless otherwise indicated

From the A38 use the left lane to take the A386 slip road to A374/City centre/Tavistock/Torpoint.
At Manadon Roundabout, take the 5th exit onto the A386 slip road to Tavistock/Airport/Derriford/Southway/Belliver/Estover then merge onto Manadon Hill/A386. Continue to follow A386 for 0.8 miles then use the right 2 lanes to turn right onto William Prance Road.
Take the first left and left again to enter the hotel car park.
The hotel is a 15-minute drive from Plymouth Train Station
The number 42 bus stops outside the hotel.
The closest airport to Plymouth is Exeter International Airport, which is approximately 50-minutes drive, depending on the time of day. If travelling during the morning or evening commute this can take longer. There is no direct bus service, you would need to change 2 or 3 times.
Free Car Parking is available for overnight guests, those dining in Fishbone Restaurant or attending a conference, wedding or event. Car registration details need to be input into one of the consoles in Reception on in Fishbone Restaurant or a parking charge notice will be issued.
